Well, we are now well into the Cyclocross season and the first four rounds of the Notts and Derby CX League have gone in a blink.
The opening race, ‘our race’ at Hardwick went great, thanks again to everyone involved. We were blessed with some perfect Cross weather, keeping the ground conditions ever changing and interesting for the racers without being miserable for the marshals.
Commentary and music from our own Mark Renshaw and great encouragement from our marshals all the way round really gave the event a buzz. The ‘Bank of despair’ which was pretty rideable this year but still gave some thrills and spills and the extra ‘kick’ on the way back up the climb drew the crowd and it was great to hear great roars of support for riders getting over the top.
Rounds 2,3 & 4 and the club is looking good across the league tables, its impossible to start picking out individual performances, new and old faces are all having their own battles and adventures on the road to getting better at Cross. The club has so many people competing to stand in the pit really makes your head spin.
I admit I worried a bit before this season started, we’ve had a lot of Club riders move on to race for other teams such as 8point8, Andy Moore, Army and Jewson, but my fears were unfounded as they are all still part of the Club ‘Cross family’ and we have a whole bunch of new faces to get to know and talents to nurture.
In other words, its business as usual for the Green and Black Cross Team 2017-18 season
If anyone is still thinking about having a go at cyclocross, get in touch or look out for the Harthill Hill Training sessions as this is a great way of getting involved and getting advice and support.
Good luck for all riders taking part in the first National Trophy at Derby next weekend. This is a great event and a step up from the league rounds well worth coming along to spectate and see some of the best cross riders in the country.
See you at the next race
