Go Ride coaching has continued every Friday evening, attended regularly by 20 – 30 children from 4 to 13.
The new Multi Use Games Area at Castle Leisure Park is a valuable addition to the facilities. Highlights in this series were: Go Ride race night; Spiral of Doom at the Summer Fun session; day out to Sheffield’s mass participation closed-road event organised by Steven Hincliffe; a new rider taking part in first mtb race at Eckington Woods.
Congratulations to Go Ride coach Craig Preece on completing the Race Across America in a team of 8 Wounded and Injured Veterans of The British Armed Forces cycling 1,700 miles and coming 8th out of 87 in a time of 6 Days, 12 Hours and 36 minutes. Go Ride was delighted to donate the takings form one evening’s subs to the Help for Heroes charity.
Thank you to the coaching team: Allison and Craig Preece, Kieren Brown, Ruth Sutherland, Steven Hinchliffe, and Andy Hampshire, and to aspirant coach Aaron Chambers-Smith for giving up their time. Also thanks to the band of parents who have supported Go Ride all season and helped with organisational and marshalling duties, in particular Louise and Hugo Reynolds and Ellen and Charlie Ratcliffe.
Summer plans: Some of our Go Riders are attending regional Go-Ride Holiday Coaching Camps. Closer to home look out for Go Ride family rides, Go Ride fun days and Go Ride time trials. And on Friday 8th September a Go Ride cyclocross course preview and race practice at Hardwick Hall. Details of all these events to follow.
