The middle of September saw the second round of the Sheffield Urban Cyclocross series. This time the venue moved from Kelham Island to the iconic Park Hill flats.
This time the course was a bit more hilly than the first race and favoured the mountain bikers with a combination of natural and man made obstacles.
There were the usual classes - sport, amateur, junior and vets with each on comprising of a 20 minute round followed by a final. I had entered the vets category. Due to a lack of fitness, ongoing back problems and other undiagnosed excuses I expected to maintain my position firmly at the back of the field.
Due to the relatively short race times the racing was very intense from the off.
Unfortunately the event clashed with the more traditional cyclocross racing so I was the only Bolsover rider there. The organiser is planning to arrange the series next year so it runs over the Summer months to avoid future clashes.
The next event in the series is at Whrlow Hall Farm on November 11th
